As a leader, what do you do when you’ve worked hard with your team throughout the year, only to be told at the end of the year there are no raises. Do you go back to the team with your tail between your legs and apologize? No! If you have been pushing them to achieve and they’ve stepped up to the plate, it’s time for you to step up on their behalf. It’s time to go to bat for them. People who are doing outstanding work should be rewarded for it. When they are not, a big step has been taken toward creating a disengaged workforce. Be the leader who will go to bat for their team. Don’t spring surprises.
